Luxury is about both materiality and context. - Campion Platt

Whether he is designing a custom residence, a home-away- from home boutique hotel, or a line of furniture or textiles, interior designer Campion Platt has one thing in mind: luxury. “Luxury is about both materiality and context,” he explains, adding that context might mean creating clear, open spaces within the confines of a Manhattan residence, or selecting opulent finishes – such as leather, resin, or marble – to accentuate spatial forms. Campion’s ideas of luxury consistently incorporate fine craftsmanship and contemporary styling as well as eco-sensitive design. For the past twenty years, his firm has shown clients across the country how to make modern design both sophisticated and soothing.

Campion earned an undergraduate degree from University of Michigan, and a Master of Architecture degree from Columbia University.  A member of the American Institute of Architects and the Architectural League of NY, he understands the importance of creating architecture and interiors that meld seamlessly. His holistic approach creates highly personalized spaces – making him a favorite of celebrities including Al Pacino, Meg Ryan, Roger Waters, Conan O’Brien, Jay McInerney and socialite Anne Hearst. A full gamut of specialized artisans and craftspeople execute Campion’s designs, which often incorporate new and innovative material uses.

Designs are dictated by extensive client-generated wish lists, rather than preconceived notions, resulting in a varied portfolio. “No two of our projects are the same,” says Campion, who emphasizes contrasts in design and believes that his work is constantly evolving. The only element that consistently remains the same is a commitment to clean, fresh luxury.

The full-service firm has been a leader in boutique hotel design, setting benchmarks with such projects as the Mercer Hotel in New York and the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Hollywood (both of which Campion was involved in as a co- developer as well), and Boston’s Bulfinch Hotel. Recognition and accolades for Campion and the firm have been widespread, with ranking on Architectural Digest’s “AD 100” list of the world’s top interior designers, and New York Magazine’s “The City’s 100 Best Architects and Decorators,”  as well as publication in magazines from Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, Wallpaper, Objekt and Gotham to Esquire and Travel & Leisure.

To keep his design inspirations flowing, Campion travels frequently. While he appreciates the beauty of European cities such as Paris, he is most inspired by the simple, deliberate housing and lifestyles of Southeast Asia. “I like considering the translation to our own culture, and the free association of ideas.” Always generating new ideas, Platt recently launched a custom furniture company http://www.campioninc.com to complement his architecture and interiors. From 19th Century campaign-style furniture to sleek modern pieces, the collections include the same sumptuous finishes and careful attention to proportion and detail and environmentally friendly materials.

Campion is currently designing a “green village” at The Greenbrier Sporting Club, located on the historic grounds of The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Platt developed a palette of healthy, “green” interior finishes and complimentary eco-friendly “green” furniture packages for the new green homes.

In addition, Campion recently completed designs on a large, turn-key home development at the DPS Sporting Club Development’s sister property, Turks & Caicos Sporting Club at Ambergris Cay. Campion has developed unique interiors and furnishings for their inspired eco-development including a new eco textile collection with HBF Textiles, which launched in 2009. His new luxe-green eco designs will be featured in the Hampton’s Cottage and Gardens “Idea House” in the Hamptons. In May of 2010, Campion launched the MARINER COLLECTION of custom hand knotted rugs for Roubini Rugs.  He is also working on a number of new fabric, lighting, and furniture collection lines to continue the theme of modern luxury which includes Casella Lighting, Haviland China, and his already launched Jim Thompson METRO CLOTH Collection of textiles.

The Company

The full-service design firm has been a leader in its field including everything from the design of the beautiful Jewel Box apartment, a Murray Hill Townhouse, and beautiful Country Manor estate in Southampton, NY.  In addition to several residential projects spanning from an Upper East Side Historic Townhouse, a 15,000 square foot estate in the Hudson Valley, and a historic tropical bungalow in Palm Beach, currently we are currently working on two 60 unit “turn-key” neighborhoods with DPS Sporting Club Development Company.  One of these projects is “Green Homes at The Greenbrier”, an entirely “green” living environment of architecture and interiors, which combines the beauty of White Sulphur Springs, WV with taking all the necessary steps to help our environment.

The firm is also designing the Saltrakers Cove on the island of Ambergris Cay in Turks & Caicos Islands.  This full service island in the British West Indies shares an active water sport lifestyle within a private club.

In addition to these design projects, we augment our interiors with our home products division and are very pleased to announce collaborations with several licensees including Jim Thompson Textiles, HBF Textiles, Roubini Carpets, and Casella Lighting and our newest collaboration, Digital Dollhouse where we enter the digital design world with our first Malibu Beach House, replete with a new line of custom furniture.
